2017 NCAA EAST PRELIMINARY ROUND MEN'S QUALIFIERS LIST | 2017 NCAA EAST PRELIMINARY ROUND WOMEN'S QUALIFIERS LIST

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron track and field program will send 23 student-athletes from its men's and women's teams – competing in 16 events – to the NCAA East Preliminary Round at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky., from May 25-27.

The group looks to join junior Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio), who earned an automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Championships, June 7-10, in Eugene, Ore., in the heptathlon.

"It took some outstanding performances to get into this year's the preliminary round," Akron head coach Dennis Mitchell commented. "We have a high-quality group. Unfortunately, we had to leave a few behind because of injury, but the group we have will represent them well. It is time now to see how we stack up against the rest of the East in head-to-head competition. We must make that Top-12."

The meet, which invites the region's top 48 athletes in each event, serves as the opening round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The top-12 finishers in each event will advance to the NCAA National Championship in Eugene, Ore. from June 7-10.
