Dance Team

The University of Akron Dance Team is comprised of 16 dancers who perform at every home game for football and men's and women's basketball. As a part of Zips' Athletics, the dance team is here to promote school spirit and school pride. As student-athletes, the first responsibility is the success of each dancer in her academic career. The second responsibility is to improve and develop each student-athlete as a dancer and a responsible, mature adult.

Our purpose is to provide exceptional entertainment at each home game and lead the crowd in cheers. We are to raise the level of fan support and lead in a positive way for all of our Zips' athletics teams.

We also serve as public relations ambassadors of intercollegiate athletics and the University of Akron. Our responsibility is to hold ourselves to the highest standard and uphold the goals and ideals of the University.

2017-18 Cheer Team Tryouts

Date: Saturday June 24

Time: 9 a.m.

Where:
Central High School Gymnasium – 123 S Forge St. Akron, Ohio 44308

What to wear:
Women-- Black Sports Bra, Black fitted Short, Bow, Hair half up & half down with a collegiate look.
Men-- All Black shirt and shorts.

What to Bring:
5X7 headshot, Printed & Completed Release Waiver

Requirements
Standing Tumbling:
Minimum- Standing Tuck
Preferred- Toe Touch Tuck, Back Handsprings to Tuck/Layout/Full
Running Tumbling:
Minimum- Roundoff Back Handspring Tuck
Preferred- Roundoff Back Handspring Layout/Full & Specialty Passes

Tryout Process

Round 1 - 9 a.m.
· Learn the fight song
· Learn Chat
· Score Standing Tucks

Cuts Made

Round 2 – Noon
· Standing Tumbling Evaluation
· Running Tumbling Evaluation
· Fight Song Evaluation
· Chant Evaluation
· Interviews

Cuts Made

Round 3 – 2 p.m.
· Stunting Evaluation (Co-ed & All-Girl) Clinic Style
Team Announced – 5:00pm
Team Meeting – 6:00pm
